Stevie Thunder

One of my favorite all-time Cardinals is/was Steve Kline. He is a scruffy Canadian left-handed reliever (SCLR) whose dirty hats usually got more attention than his pitching ability did (the Cardinals tried to fill the SCLR role with Bill Pulsipher; alas, he's from Georgia and currently resides on the DL). The local media took to portraying him as something of a mo-ron and called him "the Governor" for the usual ironic reasons. Though he occasionally crossed the line (flipping Tony La Russa the bird one time comes to mind), I always liked having him on the team and never got the Dave Veres Chills whenever he came into a ballgame. This offseason, he took the Orioles up on an offer he couldn't refuse (partly because the Cardinals refused to match the offer), and it seems that things haven't gone as Kline thought they would.

Kline later apologized for the comments in the above-linked article. Sometimes, honesty is not the best policy (at least when you're teammates and bosses have access to the Web).
